Senior Accountant
Description
Independently plans and monitors the completion of bookclose processes and financial reports in a deadline focused environment, while ensuring that issues are escalated as needed. Uses increasing expertise to process detailed information with high levels of accuracy and to research and apply accounting policy. Communicates effectively with other units and management to plan work, gather information, and present results. Leads efforts to continuously improve processes to produce relevant financial reports in the fastest, most efficient means possible.
The primary responsibilities of this accounting role involve partnering with business stakeholders to analyze and accurately record financial transactions in a timely manner, conducting monthly controls analysis, and collaborating with the team to deliver standard financial reports. This position plays a key role in supporting the team's successful financial close by performing general accounting tasks, investigating variances, communicating insights to management, and contributing to various ad hoc projects.
This is a remote position. However, those within 50 miles of our office in Boston, MA; Portsmouth, NH, Plano, TX, Seattle, WA, and Columbus, OH must report to the office twice a week. Please note that this policy is subject to change.
Responsibilities
- Oversees functions of the monthly, quarterly and annual book close cycles, monitoring timely completion and escalating issues for resolution. Accurately and efficiently performs accounting activities of increasing complexity.
- Creates increasingly complex financial statement schedules, audit support schedules and other reports in a timely manner.
- May perform detailed review of other team members
schedules.</li><li>Researches and applies accounting policy to business issues that arise. Establishes, documents and performs internal control procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.</li><li>Understands how data flows through the financial systems to the accounting function in order to identify issues and take action to address them.</li><li>Continually assesses the business value and efficiency of the work performed, making suggestions for improvements and collaborating with others in implementing them.</li><li>Leads or actively participates in increasingly complex department projects and continuous improvement activities.</li><li>Fosters the development of teammates by sharing expertise and experience through training or reviewing their work.</li><li>May provide feedback on performance.</li></ul><b>Qualifications</b><ul><li>Bachelors degree (Accounting or Finance) and a minimum of 3 years of accounting or finance experience preferred - Must demonstrate attention to detail in a fast-paced work environment and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously to achieve results
- Must be able to communicate effectively with teammates and others, leading meetings and interacting with increasingly higher levels of management to gather information and effectively present results/recommendations
- Advanced knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Word is preferred
Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
