Principal Business System Analyst - Tax

Job Summary
Partners primarily with Tax business stakeholders and also cross-functional stakeholders from AR, AP and GL to ensure delivery of end-to-end business application solutions aligned to the business and IT strategy, as well as the support of those applications. Manages projects from inception to completion with matrix, global teams. Participate in projects throughout their lifecycle to ensure that the requirements are met like making tax rules configurations, reviewing test cases, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring alignment across teams.
Responsibilities
Business Requirements Analysis
- Partners with business stakeholders to analyze, define and document business processes within and across cross functional areas
- Understands the e-Invoicing Tax compliance and the implications and able to analyze the requirements and provide a robust solution
- Manages projects from inception to completion with matrix, global teams
- Requires deep, cross functional business process expertise in Finance domains (GL, Intercompany, AP, AR, Direct tax) and innovative solutioning across platforms and systems/architectures
- Able to distill executive level requirements into appropriate discovery work plans and guide team members on good requirements gathering
- Understands business environment and helps to connect/align relevant business stakeholders for complex Tax requirements
Process Modeling and Design
- Partners with Vertex, Oracle & E-Invoicing Vendors for Tax compliance and with team members to model business processes
- Develop as-is and to-be process flows to support the design and development of solutions
- Strong technical and analytical skills on problem solving and suggest solutions
Stakeholder Management
- Skilled communicator, trusted to recognize and proactively manage key impacts and drive issue resolution
- Manages delivery scope and risks, and sets right expectations with stakeholders
- Work with other product owners, cross-functional teams technical/ functional resources, and business owners to align the product portfolio with the enterprise strategy
- Manage sales & use tax-related inquiries, audits from taxing jurisdictions and provide guidance and support to Tax stakeholders on indirect tax queries
Solution Design
- Responsible to design strategic cross-functional and global solutions that align with long-term organizational goals and roadmaps
- Research and provide state tax nexus determinations, taxability analyses, and quantification of potential sales and use/indirect tax exposures
- Lead or contribute to projects aimed at improving compliance efficiency, including evaluation and implementation of tax automation solutions
Documentation
- Supports senior management by creating architecture, project management and roadmap documentation
Functional Design
- Develops functional designs in line with an Enterprise Architecture and the long-term business roadmap
- Collaborates with cross functional business and IT teams to ensure business needs are addressed in the functional designs
Architecture
- Application/integration architecture; constructs solutions across multiple functional areas and applications
- Extensive experience with Vertex tax engine, Oracle Fusion Tax and integration with cross-functional applications/Billing platforms
- Identify, understand, and communicate changes in the tax law or regulations that would have an impact on Vertex products
Testing & Test Design
- Develops test strategy and execution to cover testing in an optimal amount of time ensuring cross-functional testing coverage
- Ability to manage multiple cross functional projects running in parallel
- Conducts System Integration Testing(SIT), work collaboratively with team members and support business during UAT
- Identifies and manages risks in release delivery
- Working knowledge and hands-on experience on Jira and Agile methodology. Able to manage projects executed with Agile or hybrid approach
- Leads troubleshooting efforts with documented defect triaging and resolution with the involved cross functional teams.
System Configurations
- Expert on indirect taxes configurations in Vertex and Oracle Fusion Tax - including US sales taxes, EU value-added taxes and other global transaction taxes
- Maintains and manages the integration of tax engine software with the ERP system including overseeing tax code assignments for products and services
- Hands-on knowledge of indirect taxes - including US sales taxes, EU value-added taxes and other global transaction taxes
- Working knowledge of Withholding Tax and configurations in Oracle Applications
Day to Day Support (Production Support)
- Monitors and manages support metrics and trends for functional areas
- Drives team towards root cause identification and resolution
- Able to triage and guide the team towards PoC approach with reasoning
- Mentors junior BSAs on functional designs, testing approach and robust configurations
Process Improvement and change management
- Experience in automation, process improvement, and data quality initiatives using tax technology tools
- Analyzes adoption rates and issues and assesses business case realization and proposes solutions to improve the processes
- Suggests and drives innovative process improvements
Vendor Management
- Manages/leads individual consultants or consulting teams from Vertex as assigned on a project
- Partners with Vertex, Oracle & E-Invoicing Vendors for Tax compliance
Qualifications
- Having at least total 10+ years of working experience
- Experience on Merger & Acquisition is highly desirable
- Strong expertise in Vertex & Oracle Cloud Fusion Tax (7+ years)
- Good Knowledge of Oracle Apps Finance (EBS) modules
- Strong exposure to AGIS, EB Tax, Account Receivables, Payables and Revenue management
- Should have ability to work independently on Project deliverables
- Able to lead a small group of Business Analyst
